As we all know, the most important means of traditional Chinese medicine for curing diseases are traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Traditional Chinese medicine mostly belongs to natural medicine, including plants, animals and minerals. The food available for human diet also comes from natural animals, plants and some minerals. Therefore, the sources of traditional Chinese medicine and food are the same. Some things can only be used for curing diseases, which is called medicine. Some things can only be used for diet, which is called food. But a few of them can not only cure diseases as medicine, but also be used as food. Because they all have therapeutic functions, the boundaries between drugs and food are not very clear.Europe and America call it “healthy food”, while Japan calls it “functional food”.
